A homeowner in Deception Bay recently contacted us after noticing water pooling around the base of their toilet.
This is something we see quite often, and it is not something to ignore.
In this case, the issue was a faulty pan connector under a back-to-wall toilet. The pan connector is what connects the toilet to the waste pipe. When it fails, water can leak out underneath and onto your tiles.
We carefully removed the toilet without damaging the tiles or the unit itself, then disassembled the system to get to the root of the problem.
The work involved:
- Replacing the pan connector and seals
- Installing new close couple seals and grommet seals
- Replacing the flexible hose
Once everything was reassembled and tested, the leak was resolved properly.
Why this matters
A leak from the base of the toilet is not just a surface issue.
Water can work its way under tiles, into flooring, and cause long-term damage if left too long. What starts as a small leak can turn into a much bigger problem.
Bonus work completed on-site
While we were there, the client also asked about their vanity taps, which were in poor condition.
Instead of attempting a temporary repair, we replaced:
- Vanity taps and outlets
- Traps and trap extensions underneath
This not only improved the function of the system but also helped eliminate a smell issue coming from under the basin.
The takeaway
If you notice water around the base of your toilet, it is usually a sign that something underneath has failed. It is not something that will fix itself, and the longer it is left, the worse it can get.
Getting it looked at early can save you from more expensive repairs later.
